Once upon a time, many years ago before Harvest Kids, there was a young woman in Africa that decided she wanted to honor families that had welcomed orphans to come and be a part of their family. Not simply to give them a bed or floor to sleep on and something to eat. But those families that would offer themselves as a free gift to an orphan or sometimes even more than one orphan. So the Lord prompted her to take the small amount of money she was making at her work and divide it between a few families. Now others have joined her vision of Comfort Africa birthed from the words of Isaiah 40:1, “Comfort, comfort My people says your God.” That young woman was Suzan who now serves as the over-all administrator for Harvest Vision Africa.
In 2012, a few years after Suzan had started Comfort Africa and was supporting different families in Uganda, Kylee, Madilyn and Hailey had a vision to start a home for some orphaned girls in Uganda and along with that started Harvest Kids to help vulnerable and orphaned children in Uganda. It was not long after, Harvest Kids were led to take all the money that was made by recycling aluminum cans that those in our community donated and make that available to the many families that Comfort Africa provided encouragement and support for. They continue to collect donations, including those they themselves contribute, for the many different projects to meet the needs of vulnerable and orphaned children throughout central Africa.
Today we made a trip to Zee’s recycling in Lynden who support the Harvest Kids and recycled over 600 pounds of aluminum cans and some scrap aluminum that made $305 that will be sent to Africa. Now, the bin is empty and we are looking forward to our many friends that continue to donate their aluminum cans so these young people in our own community and fulfill their vision.
“We CAN make a difference!”
Aluminum cans be dropped off behind our home at the Garden of Eden fellowship center at 14799 Avon Allen Rd in west Mt. Vernon or at Sheila Strock’s home, 203 Thompson Place in Sedro Woolley. You can also call if you need someone to pick them up. We are only able to recycle aluminum cans only. Thank you in advance for your prayers. You can also send donations to Harvest Vision Ministries to support the other assignments the Lord entrust to the kids.
One of our faithful donors, after hearing about all the basic needs these children with their supporters have helped provide for these children that are less fortunate summed up their thoughts by saying: “Never have I seen so few, do so much, for so many, with so little!” They have learned to put their hopes and what little they have been given into the Hands of their Master, Jesus Christ of Nazareth.
