Africa – About midnight, July 24, 2020

After going to bed, as is our usual custom, Linda and I read a chapter out of Matthew and the Psalms, then prayed and went to sleep.

As often happens, “about midnight”, I received a message from Augustine, who coordinates outreaches in the eastern DRCongo. They had loaded up the equipment and were leaving for a mission. They are 10 hours ahead of our time here in Washington. This morning, he sent a praise report that 65 people had accepted Jesus and received their eternal inheritance. We are blessed to be a part of the Body of Christ that is reaching out to those that are broken-hearted and crushed in spirit with every breath and every heartbeat.

Has the enemy convinced you that you are now limited and powerless to carry out the Great Commission? Limited time out of your home. Limited or stressful times even when you are with your family or friends. Social distancing and wherever you go, don’t forget to cover your face with a mask. Don’t listen to the lies of the enemy.

“God’s word is not chained” (2 Timothy 2:9) and “living and active”(Hebrews 4:12).

Take heart. “About midnight” means a new day has started!

“After they had been severely flogged, they were thrown into prison, and the jailer was commanded to guard them carefully. Upon receiving such orders, he put them in the inner cell and fastened their feet in stocks. About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them. Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everybody’s chains came loose. The jailer woke up, and when he saw the prison doors open, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself because he thought the prisoners had escaped. But Paul shouted, ‘Don’t harm yourself! We are all here!’ The jailer called for lights, rushed in and fell trembling before Paul and Silas. He then brought them out and asked, ‘Sirs, what must I do to be saved?’ They replied, ‘Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved – you and your household.’ Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all the others in his house. At that hour of the night the jailer took them out and washed their wounds; then immediately he and all his family were baptized. The jailer brought them into his house and set a meal before them; he was filled with joy because he had come to believe in God – he and his whole family.”

(Act 16:23-34)

Many thanks to our co-laborers here in the USA that provide the prayers and financial support for our coordinators that work with different church families to plan these outreaches in different areas of seven countries in central Africa.

Jesus said to His followers:

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where you treasure in, there you heart will be also.”

(Matthew 6:19-21)
