In these last few months, many people have found themselves in the same place as Job. Having done nothing wrong, God allowed Job’s blessings to be removed and Job found himself painfully alone and even his wife said he should abandon his faith. Even though Job and his friends were without the deep understanding that we have because of our knowledge of the birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, their love and actions as true friends far exceeded what many of us have witnessed in these last few months.
“This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down His life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers.” (1 Jn 3:16)“When Job’s three friends heard about all the troubles that had come upon him, they set out from their homes and met together by agreement to go and sympathize with him and comfort him. When they saw him from a distance, they could hardly recognize him, they began to weep aloud, and they tore their robes and sprinkled dust on their heads. Then they sat on the ground with him for seven days and nights. No one said a word to him because they saw how great his suffering was.” (Job 2:11-13)
