The World – The Fear of the Lord, January 24, 2023

“The original Greek words used for fear, in connection with the fear of the Lord, throughout most of the New Testament are phobos and phobea. They generally mean ‘alarm, fright or terror’ and carry the idea of ‘being in awe of or having reverence’.

The fear of the Lord is produced in the soul by the Holy Spirit. Godly fear means we dread displeasing Him, desire His favor, revere His holiness, submit to His will, are grateful for His benefits, sincerely worship Him, and conscientiously obey His commandments. Great blessings are promised upon those who have it.

Note: Fear and love must coexist in us in order that both passions may be healthy and that we may please and rightly serve God.”

(excerpt from the ‘Fear of the Lord” study by John Bevere)
