Missionary "Jet Lag"
Aug 1, 2010 --
Although their was no jet involved, the long enduring hours of ministry with little sleep combined with long journeys back and forth leads to a condition many can relate to with the term 'jet lag.' As the team hit a 'rest' stop on the way home to have a little bite and share a word of encouragement with each other the word 'rest' resonated with our spirits. Then God spoke to us about rest, and we all know rest is a spiritual weapon of warfare, but what does 'spiritual rest' look like. Jesus related everything we seem to need physically to a true spiritual need. He who ate His Flesh would never go hungry or die, he who thirsted and drank His blood would never thirst again but rivers of living water would flow through, the light of this world fades, but He is the light of men. Hebrews 4 talks about a 'Sabbath rest,' but was God really concerned with a specific day, the seventh day, or does 'rest' also point to Himself" What He says is that we can rest from our works that earn righteousness and rest in His righteousness inherited to those who believe in the cross, death, and rising. So in fact a certain day was important to rest, for it says, "He again fixes a certain day, "Today," saying through David after so long a time just as has been said before, "TODAY IF YOU HEAR HIS VOICE, DO NOT HARDEN YOUR HEARTS." So religiously we can say we already entered that rest and therefore have no need, or on the contrary we can say religiously we have a certain day Saturday/Sunday, but if Jesus says, ""Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest,,,and rest for your souls. That means that, the certain day of rest is 'today', as in everyday for His mercies are new everyday, and we are to 'deny ourselves daily, and pick up the cross.
So, when we are hungry, thirsty, blinded, deaf, sick and tired if we are to fill ourselves with this world, like in rest if we take that to mean a vacation in Hawaii, then we deny Jesus, and say "we have no need of Him." But even if we suffer, for "we must share in His suffering and resurrection." we have access through faith into Him who gives true rest. All that being said, our mission is not over. Missions means making disciples of nations/people groups through out the world, and the command is to 'go'. No command was given to wait, to stop or to seek Him as to whether we should go, but once He gave the command to go, that meant keep going, let nothing stop you, I AM is with you, and HIS will is to go until that last day, and to run like we want to win the prize.
So let us continually find our life in Jesus, and not the things of this world, and let us follow Jesus onto the Father, and not look to man or this world to lead us to the Father. For the food, light, healing, and rest of this world lead to death, but the true food, drink, light, healing, and rest come from Jesus. So let us overcome, as He has overcome the World, and hold fast onto HIM.
Much was done in Mexico, much is left to do, and any team member would be excited to share testimony, We are all excited to see you soon.
In His love
