“Then Jesus said to His disciples, ‘If anyone would come after Me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow Me.” (Mt 16:24)
In 1995, the Holy Spirit opened my eyes to the possibility of my being able to have a real and personal relationship with Jesus. When that happened through a stranger that I had just met that day, He also opened the possibility that Jesus could be as intimate with me as a touch on the shoulder. I prayed for three days that God would reveal to me whether that could really be and Jesus came to me at 7:03pm on Monday night while I sat in my truck in the parking lot of a local church. Since that moment, Linda and I began a journey that led us very soon to a place where we became willing to give everything to the Lord: our resources, our time and our marriage. We knew that none of them were really ours, but gifts that God has given us so we could give them back to Him by sharing the love of Jesus to those in our sphere of influence. On December 29, 2016, Linda and I celebrated 40 years of marriage and the Lord said we should use our marriage as a way of strengthening the Church. In January, we were joined by our coordinators in Mexico and other pastors and leaders in reconfirming our marriage vows as husbands and wives. We then made a commitment that we would jointly commit our marriages to serve Jesus by placing engraved locks onto the foot of the cross. Afterwards, each couple was responsible to find a place to throw their keys away. We have been blessed to do that with some of our coordinators and other couples in Lyman, Washington in February and finished the same with our coordinators from different countries in Central Africa over the Easter weekend.
