USA-“Harvest Kids at Skagit Fisheries Tree Planting” March 18, 2017
We all gathered at the Harvest home, kids and adults alike, excited about the day’s events. Armed with rain gear, rubber boots and smiles, we headed out. Isaiah 45:8 “You Heavens above, rain down righteousness; let the clouds shower it down. Let the earth open wide, let the salvation spring up, let righteousness grow with it; I, the Lord, have created it”. After stopping by to pick up a few of the kids in Lyman we all met up at Carey’s Slough to help with the planting of many different species of trees. All in partnership with the Town of Hamilton and Skagit Land and Trust. All of these opportunities were put together by Skagit Fisheries and the Big man upstairs. The kids were so attentive in listening to all of the instructions. They focused their ears in on the archeologist’s presentation as she described the many different things that they may discover while digging in the earth to plant the trees. They ran full of life to the shovels & nearest tree to plant, despite the rain that was falling so heavily upon them. They were running back to the archeologist with every object under the dirt. It was pure joy to witness the excitement and passion of the kids. The group was split into two teams that were able to cross the road and receive a lesson at the slough about whatever was caught in the net: crawdad, a small fish, etc. As the groups returned they had shared experiences, stories and fellowshipped with the volunteers from Skagit Fisheries. They provided everyone with hot coffee, cocoa & berry muffins. They didn’t stay long under that tent. With gloves back on and rain still falling they headed back out to the field for more trees to plant. What troopers they were lasting just shy of 12:30 pm. It was time to dry off warm up and head back, already talking about April 22 “Earth Day” The next scheduled outing with Skagit Fisheries. A giant Thank You that all the Adult volunteers that helped disciple all the youth on that blustery day. Thank you to all of the family, friends & guardians that provide prayer, transportation & guidance in the shaping of His children.
