USA – Harvest Kids & the "farm", Oct 24, 2015
The Lord blessed us with a beautiful but chilly day and a good crew to crush the aluminum cans that were donated to help the kids raise money to help the vulnerable children in Africa. It is great to witness these children, youth and adult helpers work this hard to make a difference in the lives of children that were born in places that aren't as blessed as though of us in this country. After getting the cans packed, the kids put more coins into their "bullet" that they use as a bank to collect their change and then signed frisbees that will be taken to children in Africa when Rabecca and Cami travel there tomorrow. Cami shared about her "invitation from God" to go to Africa on this mission trip and then the kids celebrated everyone having a birthday in October by making and decorating their own caramel apples. Rabecca shared with the kids about how everyone of them are special using Psalms 139:14, "I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made, Your works are wonderful, I know that full well."Afterwards, we "vanned up" and drove to Fred & Denelle DeVries farm to meet with Isaac who agreed to give everyone a tour. Everyone got to hear about how the farm is set up and then got to meet the baby and older calves, tour the dairy parlor where they milk 800 cows a couple of times a day and then walk around the corral. LeeAnn DeVries "happened" to ride up on her horse and blessed the kids with a ride, some for their first time on a horse. Afterwards, it was off to visit the hazelnut orchard to see the harvester and climb up on a truck that was already mostly filled with some of the harvest from the day before. We are so encouraged with these young people and for the youth and adults that are willing to sacrifice their time, gifts and resources to help these young people become disciples of Jesus.
