Spring Break Mexico Trip 2012 - #2

The team arrived home safely Saturday evening around 7:00 pm.

On Wednesday Dina and Miguel had an amazing time at the women’s prison with some sisters in Christ. While waiting to sign in they saw a new girl being booked in. For different reasons, this broke Miguel’s heart. He began crying before they even got inside. During their time there they encouraged the girls and shared the love of Christ with them. A girl in the prison shared a testimony. She had been sick and in a coma for some time. The doctors saw no hope in any improvement so they were planning on pulling the plug. In her coma it was dark and there was a faceless animal like figure approaching her. She told us this figure was death and that it kept drawing closer and closer to her. The figure began changing into different people who had died in her life that were trying to convince her come with them. In the distance she saw lights from the city and they kept growing farther and farther away. As this death figure got closer it wrapped its arms around her. She screamed ‘by the blood of Jesus I am not going to die’ and put her fingers in the mouth of the figure. She awoke from her coma. Praise GOD!

When they got home from the prison the boys had done some work around the mission complex fixing cars and such. The team cooked up some hot dogs and packed them in the car and went to visit Brenda. When they got there they all gathered together with Brenda and ate and fellowshipped. Brenda shared that God showed her that morning that Miguel would come to see her. Miguel’s heart was broken for Brenda that day. They sang a couple worship songs together. There is nothing like watching a grown man weep like that. After spending time visiting we took the rest of the hot dogs to Alva Ruth’s family and spent some time visiting her.

After visitation we packed and prepped the trophies that were donated by Mark and Sandra Eaton and all the sports equipment that was donated by so many people in Skagit Valley. Connie made and brought over an amazing authentic Mexican meal. After dinner the team headed to Centro Familiar Vida Cristiano. The team was joined by Katie Karpik and her daughter Malaika after church at the mission home.

Thursday the team stayed pretty busy. George met with Olivia to plan this year’s women’s retreat in May while some of the team spent time in the sewing room with Connie. Later that morning some of the team went to the park to play basketball. After lunch we all went to visit Miguel’s wife Loraina and their kids. George went to visit Alex and Julie while the rest of the team rested before dinner and then church at Templo Bethel where Martin shared a word that the Lord gave him, which seemed to hit home for everybody who heard it.

Friday as the team prepared to leave several visitors stopped by to visit and say ‘see ya later’. After some cleaning and packing the team shared their last lunch together in the mission home and then had communion with some visitors. Everybody took a few minutes to share their highlight of the whole trip. After tears, hugs, and kisses the team decided to head to Brenda’s one last time just to say farewell for now. From there they headed to the border. After a smooth border crossing they took off to Yuma to Katie’s parents house to have dinner and share some last few minutes with Martin before we left him there. Katie’s mom took him to the airport on Saturday morning to catch a flight to Florida and Tennessee to visit some brothers and sisters in Christ and share with them about Harvest Vision.

The team is back in time to spend Easter with their families and plenty of testimonies from the trip. We are excited for the next trip in June.
